Lecture by Chris Pearson
Working as free-lance
Chris graduated in 2005 from the Royal College of Art and was here to talk about his innovative work in a very tongue and cheek approach showing the process, and the development of his career as young dynamic motion-graphic designer. He describes hi work as an exploration of “patterns and physical surfaces through “craft-like” approach to digital technology”. Throughout his prolific production and installations we were lucky to get a closer to look to the differences there exists between briefs, commissions, re-commissions, and self-initiated projects. But also, as far as I am concerned, from this presentation, I came to realise everything was interconnected, and that you need to have a strong will to make your work special, that in every project you have to show a strong personality and commitment to your own ideas and beliefs. That it’s by researching and experimenting one particular area or medium without being scared of technology matters (in the first place) that you then built-up a very unique portfolio and that you get to be commissioned by great clients like Chris. But it isn’t always easy to decide to experiment and do proposals without being certain that you will get the rewards of your hard labour, but while listening to Chris, you suddenly feel this isn’t about the money, this is about passion and ambition, and constant challenges, and that self-esteem should be the true reward.
