Printing 2011

                                                                                                                                                                  14/01/2011

Context: Printing industry

Topic: Printing 2011
current trends in print technology

This was a very short lecture given in impro (without power point) these are a few notes, remarks and thought I gathered
Printing is under reinterpretation, in fact, print is constantly evolving,
At firt, the printing process was divided into precise stages and there were specialists for each one of them. But today, both the Design and the printing process are our responsibility as designers. « We are responsible for what comes out ».
So we must be obsessed with Details, and know exactly what we want, from the colour profiles to the type of paper and the method of printing.
One of the major changes in the printing business is that it is now environmentally driven : are design must be sustainable, and cost-effective. But it doesnt mean a systematic use of recycled paper, in deed, the paradox is that to make recycle you use chemicals, and chemicals are not eco-friendly. So in a sense, we need to be more and cleverer, to find adapted, and unique printing solutions for our product.

Conclusion
The digital revolution we are currently part of has also affected the printing industry. We now print in digital, high speed, high quality and quantity. Printmakers, and Designers work in a close relationship to produce innovative prints that are eco-friendly and brilliant.
In a nutshell: Printing the design and designing the print.
